ABOUT THE FARM

Mountain Valley Farms is a local Oregon farm that has been established since 2015. We have been practicing and researching growing methods that foster sustainable growing practices. Our resident farmer, David Gosser, is a 8th generation Oregonian he has always been committed to keeping our great land green and healthy. After David completed his Horticulture Degree at Clackamas Community College he interned at OSU North West Research and Extension center where he participated in several research studies, one published in The Oregon Association of Nurseries publication, The Digger. At this same time David’s wife, Stephanie Gosser, was completing her Associate of Science at Portland Community College. Since both David and Stephanie have science backgrounds they spent the past five years researching cutting edge growing techniques. These farming methods not only replace harmful, outdated practices, they also bring people closer to nature by understanding how their plants grow and the living creatures in the soil who feed them.

At the beginning of Mountain Valley Farms we focused on cultivation of a wide range of plants. As time went on the prospect of what Cannabis could bring to farming and healing became our focus. This plant has many things to bring to the table and when paired with other plants can be a strong fighter against pollutants in our environment and our bodies. Even though we care deeply about bringing these medicinal plants to people the laws and regulations have tied our hands. We are not rich people, and sadly the cannabis industry has become a game for only those who can pay into it. All was not lost. We founded our body care company, Mother Jane’s and have begun cultivating herbs on our land that make these products delightful and healing.

We are now on a new and exciting path. David is back at Clackamas Community College working on his Organic Farming Certificate. With this new focus we are launching our new project that aims to help other’s farm healthy food on their own land. We plan to provide tips on growing, canning, understanding living soil and making amendments. And those who don’t have the ability to farm on their own can soon hire our team to come to your house and do it for you!

Mountain Valley Farms will continue our journey on healing our land. We would love for you to join us any way you can. Much love.

Meet the team

David Gosser graduated in 2012 from Clackamas Community College with an Associates of Applied Science in Horticulture. He then went on to participate in research studies conducted at OSU North West Research and Extension Center, two of which were published in Digger magazine. David then went on to conduct his own research on his farm with his wife, Stephanie. After understanding what the industry does to grow and cultivate plants he knew there was a better way to grow. David found his answers from sources like Paul Stamets, Jethro Kloss and the Natural Farming movement. Through these sources David established an understanding of how soil works, they organisms living in the soil, and how to feed them so they feed and care for the plants being cultivated. David has learned how to make all the nutrients needed to grow healthy vigorous plants that produce produce that is full of flavor and nutrients. He has also learned how to make composts using a fermentation process that not only doesn't stink but also allows for the nutrients to be broken down in a way that it's available to the plant instantly when introduced. David is a wealth of knowledge and has kind demeanor that goes far beyond what could be written here, he is easy to talk to, answers any question with no judgement and explains the most complex concepts in ways that anyone can understand.

Stephanie Gosser studied at Portland Community College obtaining her Associates Degree in Applied Sciences in 2012. She had planned pursuing a degree in neuroscience but after a semester at Pacific University she quickly realized she did not want to sit in an office all day. Keeping a focus on helping others Stephanie has spent the last few years developing her farming skills and understanding of herbal healing. With a creative eye Stephanie is a problem solver, mixed with David's knowledge, the couple have built healthy farming practices. Stephanie is a juvenile cancer survivor, successfully beating Hodgkin's Lymphoma at the age of 10. Even though she was in remission for 10 years when she met David, she was still very weak and ill. The inability for modern medicine to help her caused David to search for ancient answers. Using these answers and funneling them through their education backgrounds the couple applied these findings to their body care products provided by their company, Mother Jane's. Stephanie will always carry an empathy for those suffering in her heart. Referring to herself as a 'modern witch' she uses her concoctions to bring healing and comfort to those suffering from many aliments. Her wicked sense of humor and observant eye make her a joy to be around and a critical part of the team.

Janice Patten "Granny" is the third part of the Mother Jane's team. Janice has been an activist ever since she almost died from Intercranial Hypertension. When she was only given a few months to live Janice and her family explored cannabis oil (FECO) to help easy her pain. Within days she was back on her feet and has far pasted the few months the doctor's had given her. Since then she has been speaking at events like Hempstalk, Cannabis vs. Cancer Campout and political events in Salem. She has also organized bake sales and marches to help the community. It's her generous heart and motivation to learn that has made her such an asset to Mother Jane's. Though cannabis has been her focus the past few years she has now brought in herbs to help others feel better. Janice's charitable focus and cheerful spirit brings joy and meaning to our products.
